Hello? World?
I created this blog as a place to share my thoughts about things related to tech, mental health, and the intersection of the two. I used to be a social/clinical scientist working in academia, where my research focused on understanding the complex relationships between digital technology (like social media) and mental health, especially among young people. If you’re interested in checking out some of my previous work in this area go here. I no longer work in academia, but I am still heavily invested in the debate surrounding the putative effects of digital technology on mental health, particularly the statistical/methodological issues that may undermine some of the boldest and loudest claims (such as “Smartphones have destroyed a generation!”).
Since I have twin toddlers and a day job, I can’t guarantee that I will post regularly. But I will try. I can confidently say that, when I do post something, it will have a lot of thought behind it. Now, I can’t guarantee that it’s good thought, but writing is typically a slow, painstaking process for me because I agonize over almost every sentence. So hopefully you will find my posts to be well-thought-out, or at least thought-out.
I welcome feedback and discussion on all of my posts, so please feel free to post comments or engage with me on twitter.
